Be A Volunteer Firefighter

Being a Volunteer Firefighter is a rewarding experience both professionally and personally. By becoming a Volunteer, you have to opportunity to give back to your community or build the skills and experience needed to pursue a career in the competitive Fire Service of today.

Our Volunteer Staff is expected to perform all of the same functions as our full time staff and is also given the opportunity to attend the same trainings and certification classes. Here at Saline Valley, we make no distinctions between our paid and volunteer staff; we are ALL professional firefighters.

Recruits Time Requirements
Required crew time shall be as follows:

Volunteer Personnel – Estimated 48 hours per month crew time.

Recruits will be assigned to shifts, minimum crew time requirements will only be met by attending the assigned shift.

All members are required to participate in 100 hours of training per year in addition to required crew time.

Training Requirements
Recruits shall complete these minimum training certifications within 18 months:
DFS – Basic Firefighter
DFS – Hazardous Materials: Awareness and Operations
Medical First Responder
