Our firefighters receive annual training in Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials and the Emergency Medical field. Each of our members are required to attend a minimum of 100 hours of training a year and attend weekly drills and lectures. Our Volunteer members receive the same training as our full time staff, ensuring that all of our firefighters are familiar with the latest techniques and equipment. |

Fire Suppression covers a broad spectrum of activities including:
- Engine Company Drills - Advancing Hose Lines - Water Supply (water from hydrants, lakes and streams) - Fire Flow Calculations - Application of Fire Foams - Live Fire Drills

Firefighters must be familiar with Commercial Buildings in and around our District. The firefighters training also involves walking through local businesses. This allows firefighters to:
- Become familiar with the business floor plan - Be aware of hazardous materials on site - Be aware of special employee needs - Have a plan in place should a fire occur at your business
Our firefighters also pre-plan with firefighters from neighboring fire districts in order to maintain a strong working relationship with surrounding agencies and make each other aware of hazards that may be encountered.

Traffic accidents occur without warning, because of this we strive to make sure that all of our firefighters are highly trained in vehicle extrication. We employ some of the latest advances in hydraulic extrication equipment and are always exploring new ways to remove a trapped victim safely and efficiently. Our firefighters receive training for all manner of vehicle including:
- Passenger Vehicles - School Busses - Over-the-road trucks - Farm Machinery |

Due to ever increasing growth in our area, our firefighters must be proficient in rescue techniques beyond fire suppression and vehicle extrication. We offer our firefighters Operational and Technician Level training in:
- Trench Rescue - Confined Space Rescue - Building Collapse - High and Low Angle Rope Rescue - Water and Ice based Rescue |

Saline Valley Firefighters have always been proactive in handling hazardous materials spills and releases. Today, with greater emphasis on Homeland Security than ever; our firefighters are being trained in:
- Hazardous Materials Mitigation - Biological Responses - Radiological Responses - Weapons of Mass Destruction - Clandestine Drug Labs |

Firefighter Search and Rescue covers all facets of rescue techniques from single family homes to large commercial structures. Our firefighters are also trained for Outdoor Search and Rescue in the event a loved one is lost in a wooded area or other type of large outdoor environment.
Search and Rescue encompasses a working knowledge of orienteering and GPS devices; also water craft search and recovery. Our firefighters also receive extensive training techniques for Rapid Intervention Teams.
Rapid Intervention Teams (R.I.T.) are activated whenever a firefighter becomes trapped on disorientated. |
